Clinical Coding Officer
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Clinical Coding Officer to join our dynamic Clinical Coding team at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Main duties of the job
The role involves supporting the clinical coding team in delivering accurate and timely abstraction and coding of patient information across the Trust, while ensuring that all work adheres to national guidelines, Trust policies, and the requirements of the National Tariff Payment System. It includes managing and prioritising workloads, resolving complex coding queries, and consistently meeting coding deadlines and completeness targets. Strong collaboration with clinicians and managers is essential to improve documentation quality, enhance coding processes, and support ongoing service development. The position also contributes to staff training, the implementation of new national directives, and representing the department in relevant meetings. Overall, the post helps drive continual improvement of coding practices and supports the strategic growth of the clinical coding service.

The role is responsible for supporting the delivery of accurate and timely clinical coding across the Trust, ensuring full adherence to national standards, Trust policies, and National Tariff requirements. This includes managing and prioritising workloads, resolving complex coding queries, and contributing to improvements in coding accuracy, documentation quality, and operational processes. The post holder also supports staff training, implements new national directives, participates in audits, represents the department in meetings, and contributes to the ongoing development and strategic direction of the clinical coding service.
To fulfil these responsibilities, the post holder works closely with a wide range of stakeholders. Key relationships include daily collaboration with the clinical coding team and regular engagement with clinicians to clarify documentation and resolve coding issues.
